MaStR: Information about registration
If you operate a photovoltaic system (PV system), you are legally required to register it in the Market Master Data Register (MaStR). Here you can find out who needs to register, how the registration process works, and what you should pay attention to.
Or go directly to the help page of the Market Master Data Register >
Who needs to register in the Market Master Data Register?
The following groups and system operators must register in the MaStR:
Operators of photovoltaic systems: Both private and commercial operators.
Operators of battery storage systems: If you have a battery connected to your PV system, it must also be registered.
Operators of other generation systems: This includes wind turbines, combined heat and power plants, and all other types of generation systems.
Feed-in systems with self-consumption: If you feed self-generated electricity into the grid and also consume it yourself.
💡 Important: Existing systems that were commissioned before January 31, 2019 must also be registered retroactively in the MaStR. Registration is free of charge and applies regardless of the system size.
Where and how does the registration take place?
Registration is done online via the website of the Market Master Data Register of the Federal Network Agency:
Website: www.marktstammdatenregister.de
Required login data: You need to create a user account. For this, you need an email address and a password.
How does the registration process work?
The registration process in the MaStR is divided into several steps. Here is a brief guide:
Step 1: Create an account
Go to the MaStR website and click on “Register”.
Enter your personal details and create a password.
Confirm your email address via the link you received.
Step 2: Register your system
Log in to the MaStR with your user account.
Select “Register new system”.
Choose the type of system (e.g. photovoltaic system, battery storage).
Enter the technical details of your PV system:
Installed capacity (in kWp)
System location (address, coordinates)
Grid operator the system is connected to
Step 3: Specify operating characteristics
Indicate whether your system is used solely for self-consumption or for feeding electricity into the grid.
Upload additional documents if required (e.g. commissioning protocols, permits).
Step 4: Review and complete
Carefully review all your information.
Complete the registration by clicking “Submit data”.
After completion, you will receive a confirmation email and can view your system at any time in your user account.
💡 Note: Registration may take a few days to be confirmed by the MaStR system.
02 FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How much time do I have to register my system?
New systems must be registered within one month after commissioning.
What happens if I don’t register my system?
Failure to register may result in a reduction of the feed-in tariff and, in the worst case, lead to fines.
Do I need to update my system after registration?
Yes, changes such as capacity adjustments, change of operator, or decommissioning must be updated in the MaStR within one month.
Can I register the system myself or do I need an expert?
Registration is possible even without technical knowledge. If you’re unsure, feel free to contact us – we’re happy to assist you!
We look forward to helping you with the registration and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
