Funding & Financing –
Private Clients
Sustainable Energy for Your Home
Private photovoltaic systems in Germany benefit primarily from tax simplifications, the legally mandated feed-in tariff, and low-interest financing programs.
Direct subsidies for private systems are usually organized at the municipal level and therefore heavily dependent on the place of residence.
Tax Framework
Simplified tax regulations apply to many private photovoltaic (PV) systems, making it significantly easier to get started.
These include, in particular:
-
zero VAT (0% sales tax) on the supply and installation of certain PV systems
-
simplified income tax regulations for smaller systems
The specific application depends, among other things, on the system size, usage, and building characteristics.
Self-consumption & Feed-in Tariff
Private systems can:
-
use the generated electricity themselves (self-consumption)
-
feed surplus electricity into the grid
Feed-in is compensated under the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
In practice, a combination of self-consumption and feed-in is often the most economically viable model.
Financing via subsidized loans
The KfW program “Renewable Energies – Standard (270)” provides a financing instrument available nationwide.
The following can be financed, among other things:
-
Photovoltaic systems
-
Battery storage systems
-
Technical ancillary components
-
Project-related connection costs
Municipal Funding Programs
Many cities and municipalities offer additional funding, such as:
-
Subsidies per kWp
-
Storage subsidies
-
Bonus programs (e.g., PV + green roof)
These programs are regionally limited, time-limited, and often subject to budget constraints.
